ADHD Awareness Month

ADHD Awareness Month

Did you know that it is estimated that 3-7% of school aged children have ADHD? While some still refer to it as ADD, ADHD is actually the clinical term used to represent one of the three identified types of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders. If you, or someone you know, struggles with symptoms of ADHD, you know how frustrating it can be! But, ADHD doesn’t have to have control over your life – with appropriate treatment planning, children and adults with ADHD can learn to overcome learning struggles and maximize their potential!

September is ADHD Awareness Month and this month is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how ADHD affects our children, our parenting, and our lives.

On Monday, September 17th, the Educational Resource Group will be hosting a four week parent education course on ADHD and Executive Dysfunction. “Support for Parents of Children with Executive Dysfunction” (open to parents, teachers, and loved ones), explores the ups and downs of ADHD while offering practical skills to help you better manage and advocate for your child’s needs.

Topics explored during this four week course include the signs and symptoms of ADHD and the role of executive functions on our behaviors both in school and at home. A discussion of how to advocate for your child and the legislation that protects children and adults with ADHD will help parents better navigate the educational system from elementary through college. We will address parenting styles, family strategies, and how to help your child develop both roots and wings. Finally, we will discuss the various treatment approaches to ADHD and how you can best plan for your child’s success.
